A Great and Terrible Beauty

Gemma Doyle is living in Bombay, India in 1895, when her mother suddenly dies. Before her death, Gemma had a vision, a vision in which she foresees her mother's death.
Months later, Gemma is shipped off to Spence Academy for finishing school. There, she meets the quiet Ann, the selfish Pippa, and the troublemaker Felicity. They band together to create The Order, which was once a group of women going between the realms and the worlds. Unfortunately, the Rakshana, a group of men, wanted to stop and close the portals forever.
Gemma has the power to bring the rebirth of the real Order, and the secrets unravel one by one by one.
A Great and Terrible Beauty is set at the turn of the nineteenth century, where there was no equality between men and women, and where girls were supposed to wear corsets, petticoats, and ball gowns each and every day. This story is about a girl who turned her head the other direction.

Overall, I liked this book...a lot. Others may disagree, but I and firm on this opinion. First of all, I don't like scary stories. This book was kind of spooky, but it all balanced out with the action and drama. Second, it had power. It had a message. I personally think that the book was trying to say that you can't look down on girls, or people of a different race or class. I give it 5 stars.

P.S. Would this be a review for the Royalty Rules Reading Challenge? Because it does mention the royalty a LOT.
